This one just showed up in my news feed reader and wow! From what it looks like it has been around for sometime (here are the past winners) but I just happened to miss it thus far. Anyways if you are a computer science or related stream female student in India, then this should interest you. The program details are available at http://www.google.co.in/jobs/womeninengineering/. Eligibility criteria here and how to apply here. This year, the award will be open for applications from September 15, 2009 to October 31, 2009
Recognition of women in open source is nothing new. You have the popular LinuxChix community focused around Linux enthusiasts and FOSS in general. There is a India chapter as well. Very heartening to see companies making an effort to recognize their contribution. This should go a long way in encouraging women to take up careers in technology seriously.
