Linux Test Project's latest release is out now. The test suite covers more than 3000+ tests as note in the project site. Started by SGI and maintained by IBM, this project is perhaps a very useful and productive way for students to get involved with Linux contribution. After all doesn't it help to become a consumer first and see the gaps in the product if any and then go on to fix it?
Getting involved in a testing project throws up quite a few areas of learning. First of course is understanding the product and with all the excitement around the Penguin these days, it is anybody's guess that familiarity with Linux helps. Besides, students would get a first hand feel of testing process right from testing tools, frameworks, types of testing, test management infrastructure and tools and the the art and science of the developing maintainable tests.
Getting started is easy. Check out the instruction on the project page.
