Its raining open source mobile platforms. We already had a share of Android, Symbian, Moblin, the original gnome mobile and then Limo, OpenMoko and now OFONO jointly launch by Intel and Nokia. Announced earlier this week, perhaps this is an attempted answer to rising Android + ARM combine that is going beyond phones to netbooks as well. If one were to go by the recent announcement by Skytone about the upcoming Android netbook, then it is likely to be a feast for the consumers and should we say the same pain for the developers? With so many competing platforms application developers would continue to handle the challenge of an explosive combination of platforms, screen sizes, inputs devices. Won't we ever reach the write once, run everywhere state of nirvana?
The interesting bit is Intel who are also supporting Moblin initiative and also are part of the Open Handset Alliance.
