It has been a while since I last posted OSS cafe. Lots have been going on since then. For example we now have a good user profile available for registered users of Kenfuse. Also now users can communicate with the rest of community with private messages.
Back to OSS cafe, here is a quick round up of some recent interesting buzz on open source development.
Eclipse foundation declared their new release code name Galileo. The release can be downloaded here. Of all the interesting features, the one that got me hooked is PHP toolkit. Eclipse for most part has been a favorite amongst Java developers but this new kit should impress the PHP community as well.
IFEF, a non-profit organization along with Boing Boing and Sun is running a very interesting contest DigitalOpen : open source projects by developers under 17 . The contest started on April 15 and is open till Aug 15th. Of course there are fantastic digital goodies in store for the winners, but the interesting part is the target segment of under 17. Catch 'em' young eh!
Good folks at Google also shared a challenging vision for web developers - "if browsing the web was as fast as turning the pages of a magazine?". Google code already provides a eclectic collection of tutorials, tools for web developers, all focused towards making web pages faster. You can share your ideas here. Last count over 62 ideas from 134 people. Definitely looking for lot more....
