Android app - Citizen Reporter

Citizen Journalism with now ubiquitous connectivity through mobile devices is undoubtedly influencing the way we get news. Take a look at some of the Landmark moments of citizen journalism.

This project would focus on a integrated android app covering audio, video & text. App users would have the option to

  1. Record video with audio commentary. Once recorded a minimal editing should be possible on the device itself with options of including text commentary rendered over the playing video. Of course it should be possible to do the same for still pictures. Last step would be to upload to a reporting site using registered and authenticated credentials
  2. Live streaming of video with commentary which can be uploaded to the reporting site real-time.

Citizen reporting has also come under fire for reasons related to unaccountability. This project would therefore also focus on enabling quality reporting with a range of options on the back-end server site where reported contents are uploaded. Filtering or qualifying content would be based on

  1. User registration and status. Status can range from verified members , regular members, sponsored (news reports for example)
  2. Location Tagging: Uploaded content be tagged optionally with location information using Google latitude.
  3. Additional filters: Filters based on state of review or verification by other registered members
  4. Social tagging & rating: Digg like tagging to filter quality of content reported
  5. Locate reporters: Registered members can be alerted by other users (optional) about possible events in their current location ( physical location based on latitude) and request them to go live for reporting

Technologies to be used
