Dimdim is an application software, that provides a web-based platform for real-time, rich-media collaboration and meetings. It is considered one of the leading alternatives to WebEx web conferencing solution a Cisco company. Dimdim provides free web conferencing service where users can share desktops, show slides, collaborate, chat, talk and broadcast via webcam. A good web conference solution cuts the need for travel besides promoting much better communication across locations. To find out more about Dimdim visit site.
While Dimdim as an open source product has been very well received in the community, there are some challenges in terms of getting the open source code base to build and deploy. See some details here in this discussion thread and here. While Dimdim provides rpms for CentOS, it would be useful to have .deb for debian and rpms consumable on most platforms including OpenSUSE, Fedora.
This project is about building Dimdim 4.5 open source edition following the discussion threads and create .deb, .rpm files. Focus would be on steps rather than providing pre-built binaries (unless someone is clear about the license and is willing to host the download).
Technologies you should be familiar with :
Java, Ant, rpm, deb
Execution strategy
The output of this project would be instructions and steps capture under the documentation links under this project. It is possible that there would be code snippets, patches etc developed for certain sections and the same can be attached to relevant documentation pages.
