OpenNebula Management Console

This project was originally proposed for Goolge summer of code.

OpenNebula is an open source virtual infrastructure engine that enables the dynamic deployment and re-placement of virtualized services (groups of interconnected virtual machines) within and across sites. Conceptually similar to Amazon's now popular EC2 cloud, OpenNebula provides an open source alternative for anyone to setup a cloud infrastructure. OpenNebula extends the benefits of virtualization platforms from a single physical resource to a pool of resources, decoupling the server not only from the physical infrastructure but also from the physical location. OpenNebula provides a powerful API and CLI, in this project we will develop a web-based console for OpenNebula. The user will login in a configurable dashboard with specific widgets/tabs for monitoring the physical infrastructure, boot a new virtual machine, or control running VMs.

Required Skills:
Even though OpenNebula deals with cloud comuting and virtualization to develop the Management console one is required to just have a basic understanding of cloud computing and virtualization. However, one would need to have intermediate level skill on UI development technologies such as

  • Ruby
  • Javascript
  • CSS
  • Ajax tool kits such as jqery, Dojo, YUI etc
